Objective: To ensure continuity of education during an emergency situation (e.g., pandemic) by providing a mix of asynchronous paper-based work and synchronous online learning via Google Meet.

 

1. Preparation and Distribution of Paper Packet Materials (10 Days of Work)

A. Content of the Paper Packets:

• Core Subjects:

  1. Math:

     • Worksheets covering 10 days of essential math skills (grade-level appropriate, e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.).

     • Problem-solving activities and word problems.

  2. ELA (English Language Arts):

     • Reading comprehension activities.

     • Writing prompts and journaling tasks.

     • Grammar and vocabulary exercises.

  3. Science:

     • Simple at-home experiments (with common household items).

     • Worksheets that focus on key concepts (life sciences, earth science, etc.).

  4. Social Studies:

     • Map reading activities and simple history lessons.

     • Family-based projects to encourage discussions about historical events.

  5. Art & Physical Education:

     • Simple drawing prompts and physical activities for students to do at home (e.g., yoga poses, jump rope challenges).

B. Distribution Process:

• Families will be notified by phone and email about the pickup date for the packets.

• For those who cannot pick up, packets will be mailed or delivered by school staff.

• Packets will be prepared and sent in advance, ensuring all students have their materials before the remote learning begins.

C. Packet Collection:

• Parents will be asked to drop off completed work every 10 days or upload pictures via a shared Google Drive or ClassDojo if possible.

 

2. Daily Live Learning via Google Meet (45-60 minutes per day)

A. Schedule Overview:

• Each class (K-6) will have a daily 45-60 minute live session on Google Meet.

• Teachers will schedule lessons based on the following general breakdown:

  • Morning Sessions (Grades K-3): 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM 

  • Afternoon Sessions (Grades 4-6): 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM 

All teachers will provide a recording of the daily session for those who cannot attend live.

B. Structure of the Google Meet Lessons:

• Check-in & Discussion (5-10 minutes): Students share how they’re doing or talk about the previous day’s packet work.

• Lesson Delivery (20-30 minutes): Focused on core subjects (Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies). Teachers will use visual aids like Google Slides to guide the session.

• Interactive Time (10-15 minutes): Q&A, virtual games, or small-group breakout rooms.

• Wrap-Up (5 minutes): Reminders about the day’s packet work or any upcoming tasks.

 

3. Teacher & Parent Communication

A. Weekly Email Updates:

• Teachers will send out weekly emails to parents summarizing the learning objectives, packet work, and any changes to the schedule.

B. Office Hours:

• Teachers will be available for office hours via Google Meet or email for 60 minutes daily (between 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM), where students or parents can ask questions or get additional support.

C. Virtual Parent Meetings:

• A bi-weekly parent meeting on Google Meet will be scheduled to discuss the progress, challenges, and offer guidance on supporting students at home.

 

4. Technology Access & Support

A. Device Distribution:

• The school will ensure that students without devices have access to Chromebooks or tablets. A technology survey will be conducted beforehand.

B. Internet Access Support:

• Work with local internet providers to ensure that families have access to affordable Wi-Fi options. For families in remote areas, provide mobile hotspots if needed.

C. Tech Support Hotline:

• Establish a tech support hotline for parents and students to troubleshoot Google Meet, Google Classroom, or device-related issues. Hotline will be open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

 

5. Special Education and ESL Support

A. Adapted Paper Packets:

• For students with IEPs or 504 Plans, paper packets will be adapted to meet their learning goals. Specialists will be involved in creating these materials.

• ESL learners will receive bilingual materials or additional language support through personalized Google Meet sessions.

B. Virtual One-on-One Support:

• Special education and ESL teachers will schedule daily one-on-one virtual sessions to provide additional assistance as per student needs.

 

6. Assessment and Feedback

A. Daily Check-ins:

• Teachers will informally assess students' progress during the daily Google Meet sessions by asking questions and reviewing completed packet work.

B. Packet Grading:

• Packets will be graded for completion and understanding. Teachers will provide feedback and any needed corrections through ClassDojo or Google Classroom.

C. Progress Monitoring:

• Formal assessments (if applicable) will be conducted through online quizzes, recorded video responses, or written work uploaded via Google Classroom.

 

7. Well-being and Mental Health Support

A. Counseling Availability:

• School counselors will host virtual office hours for students and parents needing support during this time, either one-on-one or in small group formats.

B. Mindfulness and Wellness Activities:

• Teachers will include mindfulness exercises or short physical breaks (yoga, meditation, etc.) as part of their Google Meet sessions to support students' well-being.
