Meet the New Head of School at Truxton Academy Charter School
Truxton, NY – The search for a new Head of School for Truxton Academy Charter School is over. We are pleased to announce Kerryanne Schenck has accepted the position and is starting today.
The Head of School hiring committee reviewed and interviewed several qualified candidates. It was not an easy decision, but in the end Mrs. Schenck’s agricultural background along with her educational experience and commitment to community proved to be the best fit for Truxton Academy.
Mrs. Schenck has 23 years of experience as a music teacher, at all levels in a wide variety of school settings. She worked in corporate America as well and brings those skills to her work as an administrator. Most recently she worked in Buffalo as an interim Assistant Principal at a charter middle school. Mrs. Schenck is a mother of four children, one aged 23 and triplets who are 16. She lives on a horse farm in Mexico, NY and in her spare time she shows miniature horses and Shetland ponies. Mrs. Schenck is very excited to join the Truxton Academy family and to continue to grow towards our mission.

Search underway for Head of School at Truxton Academy Charter School
Truxton, NY – A search is underway to replace Truxton Academy Charter School’s founding Head of School Sara Petit-McClure, who announced at last month’s board meeting her decision not to return for the 2022-2023 school year in order to re-focus on completing her PhD. The board of trustees respects and understands Sara’s decision. She has been truly devoted and integral to the successful startup of Truxton Academy. She informed the board that this decision did not come lightly, and she looks forward to helping a new school leader transition into the role. Sara will remain as acting Head of School throughout the remainder of the current school year.
The search for a new Head of School began immediately after Sara’s announcement. The job has been posted on Indeed.com and qualified individuals are encouraged to apply.
The board has created a Head of School hiring committee made up of one school parent, one faculty member, one member of the school administration team, one founding team member and three board members. Anyone interested in serving on this committee is encouraged to submit an application. The Truxton Academy Executive Committee will review applicants and appoint members accordingly.
As this is a time sensitive matter, applicants should submit interest no later than Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 3:00pm to info@truxtonacademy.org. Questions regarding the process should be directed to the same email.
Once members are chosen, the committee will set up a schedule to review candidates. They will be involved in vetting of applications and conducting the first round of interviews. The top candidates will be submitted for consideration by the board of trustees, which will conduct the final round of interviews. Final candidates will be introduced to the community and the Truxton Academy School Family for a Question-and-Answer session before a final decision is made.
Sara will always be part of Truxton Academy’s history and foundation. She will be missed by our entire school family.
