Hello Families and Supporters,
Happy Thursday and last day of school! It has been a wonderful school year! While I will still be working this whole summer, this is the last weekly email I will be writing and that brings me sadness. It has been an absolute honor and a joy to serve this school and grow our school family over the past 3 years. We have grown from a school with 44 students in three classes in grades K-2 to a school which is ready to have grades K-5 and will welcome almost 110 students in the fall. We have done this through all the challenges of COVID and I am proud to have led the school in its first three year of growth towards our mission. I know that we have built a strong team that will continue to grow our school family and our mission.
The interview process for the Head of School is continuing and the Board or Trustees and I will keep you up to date on it as there is new information to share. There will be a public meeting to meet the finalists that is being scheduled and will be shared soon. It would be wonderful to have parents and community members in attendance.
This year was filled with fun times, field lessons, work in the garden, playing in the snow, sun and rain, making new friends, and lots of learning. Our students grew in their Spanish skills and enjoyed physical play in PE. They completed projects and presented their learning to their classmates, to other classes, and at times, to others outside of the school. We celebrated holidays and birthdays. We had cooking lessons in the kitchen. We participated in the Dairy Parade and had visitors come into our school to teach us. Our students became better readers and better mathematical thinkers. They increased their knowledge of the world we live in through science and social studies learning. Through it all, we strengthened our school family and community. I will take all of these wonderful memories with me and I know your children will keep these memories with them as well. Thank you to all of you who have, in one way or another, contributed to our school family and made it stronger; this includes all of our wonderful students!
As we look towards next year, I am attaching another copy of the school calendar so you have it. Additionally, it is important for our students to stay busy over the summer and practice the skills they learned this year. The attached document gives us all a challenge for us to spend time away from screens, improving our brains, interacting with others, and showing kindness. These are good practices for us all and the challenge is for adults and children alike.
